Insurance Discounts:
Connecticut State Law Title 38a Sec.
38a-683 mandates a premium discount for a private
non-fleet automobile under an automobile liability or
physical damage insurance policy for any principal operator
who has attained the age of 62 and has submitted proof
of a successful completion of an accident prevention
course approved by the DMV.
The DMV Phone Center will take a message
and the customer will be called back as soon as possible
with a list of approved courses. The minimum discount
is 5% for a period of two years. Many insurance companies
give a discount of more than five percent. Contact your
insurance company for more information.
The discount must, by law, apply to
the liability coverage. But a particular insurance company
could decide to discount non-liability coverage as well.
Contact your insurance company for more information.
If you meet the requirements for a
premium discount, by law you cannot be denied the minimum
discount regardless of your driving history.
For drivers less than 62 years old,
the law does not require insurance companies to give
a premium discount as a result of a successful completion
of a driving course. But many insurance companies do
give a discount. A discount is common for teen drivers
who have successfully completed an acceptable driving
course. Contact your insurance company for more information.
